Size - Less than 6" tall - spreads to 1 ft.
Exposure - Full sun
Culture - Portulaca or "Moss Rose" is a wonderful container plant that is drought tolerant once established and not very fussy. It can also be grown in the ground in sandy, gravely and well-drained soils. It has escaped cultivation and is considered a weed in warmer locations.
Similar to purslane, portulaca has flowers that are double and showier. (See the Purslane page for its characteristics). Flowers close at night or on cloudy days. Drought tolerant but needs regular watering for blooming.
