Thorns - Moderate
Size - 20'-30' high (climbing)
Fragrance - Medium, musky
Repeat bloom - No
Disease resistance - Good
Hardiness - Zone 5
The Name of the Rose - Named for the daughter of Ulrich Brunner, a rose enthusiast from Lausanne.
Cl. Cecile Brunner is a sport of the shrub rose of the same name. One of the highlights of each spring is a tall arch over my back door which is smothered in blooms from this rose. The blooms are beautifully formed, almost like a miniature hybrid tea. They first appear as a clear pink and then fade to white. A peppery fragrance is notable especially when there is a breeze. It is a sad fact that this rose only blooms once each year but there is an everblooming variety which would be well worth pursuing.
This is a monstrous rose and requires lots of room! It is excellent on pergolas or other large structures. It can also be grown as a large shrub but it is particularly beautiful covering some type of structure. Good disease resistance. Also known as the "Sweetheart rose" or the "Buttonhole rose".
