Aquilegia (Columbine) "McKana hybrids"
Hardy to Zone 3
Bloom Time - Early spring - early summer
Colors - Pastel colors (blues, pinks, yellows)
Foliage - Three ternate mid-green leaves
Size - 1 - 2 ft. in height
Exposure - Partial shade
Culture - These gorgeous plants with their large, showy flowers are a highlight of early spring. They grow best in woodland conditions - moist, shady, humus-rich soils are best. Foliage appears in very early spring closely followed by the flowers. In summer, the plants go dormant. They re-seed readily so in following years you might find them in unexpected places. These are short-lived plants so I replant some each spring to keep a good supply. They make excellent cut flowers.
