Impatiens
(aka "Busy Lizzie")
(Impatiens walleriana)
Hardy to Zone 10
Bloom Time - Spring - frost
Colors - Pink, Red, White, Orange, Bi-colors
Foliage - Lance-shaped, velvety gray-green leaves
Size - .5'- 2' feet tall by 1'-3' wide
Exposure - Part to full shade
Culture - Easy to grow in moist, well-drained soils. Excellent bedding and container plant. Set out plants after danger of frost and fertilize about every 2-3 weeks with a general balance fertilizer or one that promotes blooms. Plants can be pinched back after planting to promote branching.
Comments - What would gardeners do without impatiens? They are the only plant I can think of that will bloom non-stop from the time you set them out until frost. And they can do that in complete shade. They look great in containers or hanging baskets or massed together in beds, borders or as edging plants. They are also fine in woodland gardens. They have no major pests except for slugs. Wonderful for mass color!
