Climbing American Beauty
Large Flowered Climber
Origin -Ledechaux, France, 1885
Parentage - Unknown
Color - Deep pink
Foliage - Medium green
Thorns - Strong
Size - 8'-12' (climbing)
Fragrance - Strong
Repeat bloom - No
Disease resistance - Fair
Hardiness - Zone 5
We first discovered this rose growing on archways at the Antique Rose Emporium outlet in Dahlonega, Georgia (that outlet no longer exists). When in bloom, it is a stunning blanket of blossoms. Ours grows on a smaller archway on the north side of our house, an area that has become quite shady over the years. Still, this rose blooms profusely every year. The downside is that the blooms only come once per year and after that, blackspot and other maladies take over. Still, this is a rose worth having.
